As the demand for healthcare professionals intensifies across Southeastern and Central Wisconsin, Forward Careers is expanding its NEXT (Nursing. Equitable. Expansion. Training.) Program to help bridge the gap. Launched in May 2023, the NEXT program provides targeted training and career development for underrepresented populations, equipping them with the skills needed for healthcare careers in high-demand areas.
NEXT specifically targets healthcare workforce gaps in 14 counties, including regions identified as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). By focusing on training individuals from marginalized communities, NEXT aims to close the healthcare staffing gap and improve healthcare access for medically underserved areas.
With a new $50,000 grant from the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, Forward Careers will extend its reach, focusing on training 25 individuals from Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington counties as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Participants will receive specialized healthcare training along with supportive services such as childcare and transportation assistance, to ensure they can successfully enter the healthcare workforce and begin their careers in this critical field.
"The healthcare workforce is facing unprecedented challenges, and at Forward Careers, we are committed to addressing these needs through innovative training solutions. The NEXT program reflects our dedication to empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds and providing them with the tools they need to thrive in healthcare careers. Through this program, we are not only transforming lives but also ensuring that our communities have access to the skilled healthcare professionals they so desperately need," expressed Cindy Simons, President & CEO for Forward Careers.
By focusing on equity, inclusion, and targeted outreach, NEXT is creating lasting change both for individuals seeking stable, meaningful employment and for healthcare systems in desperate need of qualified workers. Together, we can build a brighter future for Wisconsin's healthcare industry and the communities it serves.
